Scribbles: The Art of “Emerging”

The New York Artists Circle’s exhibition Scribbles: The Art of “Emerging” is a celebration of the meandering marks and lines that flow instinctively from an artist’s hand as visual images take shape and emerge. Whether unfinished nonsense or finished visions, these scribbles may feel as primeval as a child’s drawing or as mysterious as secret messages, codes or startling revelations.
More than the language of lines, these acrobatic marks express an urgency that reveal an artist’s inner life or response to the visual feasts before their eyes. Curated by Lois Bender, assisted by Stacy Bogdonoff and Laurey Bennett-Levy, Scribbles: The Art of “Emerging” showcases members’ work, on view at the Art at First Gallery at the First Presbyterian Church of New York at 12th St. & Fifth Ave. from March 2 to April 24. Opening reception Sunday, March 2, 12-4 pm. Gallery hours: Sunday, March 2 and April 13 and Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12-4 pm. Please call the church ahead to check at 212-875-6150.
