Augusta! Benefit Performance
The Emma L. Bowen Center is proud to announce a special benefit performance of Augusta!—the powerful one-woman show written and performed by Renée Flemings—on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Harlem School of the Arts Theatre. Proceeds from this event will support the Bowen Center’s life-saving mental health, addiction treatment, and supportive services.
The performance of Augusta! offers an intimate and inspiring portrait of Augusta Savage (1892–1962), the groundbreaking artist, educator, and activist whose life and influence remain central to the Harlem Renaissance. Audiences will follow her journey from her humble beginnings in rural Florida—where she contended with her strictly religious father’s objections—to her triumphant emergence on the international arts scene as a brilliant sculptor and visionary teacher.
Spectrum NY1 anchor and author Cheryl Wills will serve as host for the evening and will lead a live post-show discussion with Ms. Flemings, giving attendees an exclusive opportunity to delve deeper into Augusta Savage’s remarkable life and legacy.
