The Global Influence of Women Winemakers

Harlem Wine Gallery is thrilled to participate in Women’s History Month! On March 15, we will pour a selection of five wines from five Trailblazing Women Winemakers from around the world. We will pour wines by Mee Godard (Beajolais), Kelley Fox (Oregon Chardonnay), Natasha Williams (South African Cinsault), Heidi Schrock (Blaufrankish), and Teresa Breuer (Trocken Riesling). We have an elegant-serene event space where 30 people sit around a beautiful tablescape with glassware and boards of charcuterie (vegetarian options included), where they listen, engage in real time Q&A and discussion with a seasoned, talented Sommelier, and enjoy an evening of exceptional wine and wine education.
We’re excited to have Sommelier Giselle Hamburg discuss the influence of women in wine and their classic or modern methods of winemaking. Giselle is well-travelled for her wine field research, and she is very knowledgeable about grape varietals and winemaking methods. The wines all vary in mouthfeel and style, as well as cellar-worthy aging and style and they derived from distinctly different regions and different terroir. You’ll learn a lot at this event, whether you are a wine novice or experienced connoisseur.
About Sommelier Giselle Hamburg:
After a childhood spent growing up between New York, Paris and Belgrade and traipsing around everywhere in between visiting family and friends, Giselle acquired a keen knowledge of various cultures, cuisines, geography and languages. Once back in New York, after a final 10 year stint in Paris as a touring musician, she joined the city’s restaurant scene as a server and bartender. Whilst working at the illustrious Soho hotspot The Cub Room, she took her first sommelier class upon her GM’s recommendation and was immediately hooked! Whilst taking back to back classes and certifications, she worked as a Sommelier and then Beverage Director at iconic institutions such as Batali and Bastianich’s Del Posto and Bobby Flay’s Bar American. Transitioning to retail and auctions, she put in time at Sherry Lehman, Christie’s, Acker and Zachys. She currently works as the Central and East European buyer at Tribeca’s Chambers Street Wines. She views sharing her passion for wine with customers much like performing music on stage; it’s all about sharing the love!
