THIS SPECIAL EVENING IS PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NYC LANDMARKS6O ALLIANCE AND THE NEW YORK STATE ARCHIVES PARTNERSHIP TRUST, MARKING THE RARE DISPLAY OF THIS WATERSHED DOCUMENT IN THE HISTORY OF RELIGIOUS FREEDOM-A PRECURSOR TO THE FIRST AMENDMENT AND A BEDROCK DOCUMENT FOR THE HISTORY AND FUTURE OF FREE EXPRESSION IN THE UNITED STATES. THE NEW YORK STATE ARCHIVES HAS GENEROUSLY AGREED TO LEND THE REMONSTRANCE FOR THIS OCCASION. THE REMONSTRANCE WILL BE ON DISPLAY TO THE PUBLIC FROM APRIL 8H TO 10™, THIS EXHIBITION SERVES AS THE OPENING EVENT OF THE 60H ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION OF THE PASSAGE OF NEW YORK CITY’S INFLUENTIAL LANDMARKS LAW.

THE EVENING WILL BEGIN WITH A CURATOR-LED TOUR OF THE REMONSTRANCE AT 5:45 PM, OFFERING INSIGHTS ON THIS EARLY ASSERTION OF FREEDOM OF CONSCIENCE AND RELIGION, AND THE IMPACT THE REMONSTRANCE HAD ON THE CREATION OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS MORE THAN A CENTURY LATER. A SPECIAL PRIVATE RECEPTION WILL FOLLOW FROM 6:30 TO 8:00 PM, PROVIDING AN OPPORTUNITY TO GATHER AND REFLECT ON THE ENDURING LEGACY OF FREE EXPRESSION, AND HEAR FROM DISTINGUISHED SPEAKERS CHRISTOPHER EISGRUBER, PRESIDENT, PRINCETON UNIVERSITY, AND DR. ANTHONY MARX, PRESIDENT, NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY. WE WOULD BE DELIGHTED IF YOU COULD JOIN US. PLEASE REPLY TO THIS EMAIL (SEE BELOW).
