Take a Soul Break with organ music performed by Kenneth Dake at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 3 in the historic Marble Collegiate Church Sanctuary, 1 W. 29th Street at Fifth Avenue.

Dake, a conductor, composer and keyboardist, has served as Director of Music of New York City’s Marble Collegiate Church since 1996. The Chicago native attended Interlochen Center for the Arts before moving to New York and earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance from The Juilliard School. He later pursued organ studies under the tutelage of John Weaver and went on to serve eight years as organist/choirmaster of St. George’s Episcopal Church on Manhattan’s Stuyvesant Square. Known for his technical virtuosity and communicative passion, Dake is equally at home as organ recitalist or piano soloist. His choral and instrumental works are published by MorningStar, GIA, Hinshaw, H.W. Gray, and Kjos, and are performed nation-wide with increasing frequency.

Marble Church’s world-famous pipe organ, designed and voiced by Sebastian M. Glück, encircles the listener in a manner both heard and felt. Marble’s organ has nearly 6,500 pipes spread over seven divisions – including three that are enclosed. An elegantly-crafted and technologically advanced four-manual console sits in the East choir gallery and commands 101 ranks of pipes.

The organ’s orchestral effects and daring musical gestures were designed to perform great concert literature, lead dynamic public worship and provide refined accompaniment to Marble’s esteemed choirs under Dake’s direction

The 30-minute Soul Break is free. For more information visit MarbleChurch.org.
