Shamel Pitts, TRIBE, and Afrofuturism
Dance Shamel Pitts is the Founder, Artistic Director, and choreographer of TRIBE, a multidisciplinary arts collective composed of international and local artists working across numerous mediums and dedicated to the Afrofuturism movement. This movement states that it is the artist’s responsibility to create work that tells new stories and creates a brighter future that is different and shines more luminously than its past. Shamel will speak of the Afrofuturism movement and how it inspires TRIBE artists and their work. The evening will include a discussion and video of TRIBE’s work.
