Poetry Discussion Circle (In Person) – Celebrating 50 Years of Hip Hop through Poetry Date and Time
This event is in person.
Join fellow poetry enthusiasts in unpacking the layered meanings of poetry through an informal group discussion.
Each session focuses around a theme that celebrates the diversity and range of the poetic form and contemporary poetry culture.
For our April 2023 meeting, we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of hip hop through poetry inspired by this rich cultural and artistic movement.
We will be meeting in the corner seating area on floor 1M, one mezzanine level up from the entrance. Reading selections below will also be provided at the event.
Reading selections for this meeting are:
- “Self Portrait as Kendrick Lamar, Laughing to the Bank” – Ashanti Anderson – June 2020
- “Badu Interviews Lamar” – Camoghne Felix – April 2015
- “Every Hard Rapper’s Father Ever: Father of the Year” – Douglas Kearney – December 2013
- “a remix for remembrance” by Kristiana Rae Colon – April 2015
Readings are selected from Poetry Magazine and Poetry Foundation. Explore our archive of issues and access selected program reading selections with your library card.
Please note that contemporary poetry deals frankly with contemporary issues and all works discussed are artistic expressions selected for an adult audience.
