Pavlina Vagioni: Medusa Unraveling- Artist Reception
On Monday, July 8, 2024, The Opening Gallery in Tribeca will open Medusa Unraveled, Greek artist Pavlina Vagioni’s first solo show in New York, featuring wall-mounted works that examine the historical weight of the gorgon Medusa— somewhat of a contemporary take on the Goddess movement.
Thoroughly researched by the artist using untranslated archival texts by numerous 18th-century Greek scholars, the artworks on display present an unrevised and factual narrative surrounding the figure Medusa and the storied prejudice, fear, and gender dynamics associated with her lore, spanning from ancient mythology to today.
