Nurturing the Artist: Student Life From the FIT Special Collections

Daily, 9 am – 5 pm, through Dec. 1;
Free

Ever wonder what makes a Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) student special? Wonder no more. Now there is an exhibition dedicated to the creative journey of FIT students. Nurturing the Artist: Student Life From the FIT Special Collections explores the varied aspects of FIT students dating back to the college’s founding in 1944, and how they have both grown and remained unchanged over the decades. The exhibition features approximately 100 objects, comprising college publications, oral history interviews, student projects, graduation photographs, runway show videos, objects, and textiles, as well as documentation of other aspects of campus life, such as athletics, student associations, and student-led newsletters. Highlighted are objects from recently-donated manuscript collections. The exhibition is curated by Tiffany Nixon, head of Special Collections and College Archives, and Julie Sandy Boyle, Special Collections associate, Special Collections and College Archives.
