The New York Oud Festival returns for its second year from May 21-31, 2025, across New York City at venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The NYOF celebrates the oud and its wide-ranging influence on global music culture, showcasing artists from a multitude of traditions and contexts, and demonstrating why the oud continues to be one of the world’s most beloved instruments.

Seating is limited and first-come first-serve.Join oud virtuoso Muhammed Qadri Dalal for an enchanting evening of traditional Arab music, featuring his masterful oud playing alongside Samer Ali on violin and Jeremy Smith on riq. This performance is part of the New York Oud Festival and it highlights the oud through a program of improvisations and both traditional and original compositions, showcasing the central role of the oud in the maqam tradition.

Born in 1946 in Syria, oud virtuoso and musicologist Muhammed Qadri Dalal is a leading authority on the maqam tradition. An apprentice of Bakri al-Kurdi, he has performed with many of the Arab world’s most prominent traditional singers, including Sabah Fakhri and Sabri Mudallal. As a composer, educator, and scholar, he has written extensively on the history and evolution of traditional Arab music.

Dalal has mentored generations of singers and composed for vocalists across the Arab world. He toured internationally with renowned ensembles and served as director of the Sabah Fakhri Conservatory in Aleppo. He now performs regularly with Takht al-Nagham in concerts across the United States.
