Marble Collegiate Church will present Rev. Jim Wallis, author of “The False White Gospel,” at its 11 a.m. service on Pentecost Sunday, May 19, in its historic Sanctuary at 1  W. 29th Street on the corner of Fifth Avenue in New York City. The thought-provoking service will be followed by a question-and-answer period and book signing at 12:15 p.m.

Rev. Wallis’ sermon, “Change is Coming,” will be centered on his just-published New York Times and USA Today bestselling book, “The False White Gospel, Rejecting Christian Nationalism, Reclaiming True Faith and Refounding Democracy. ” In this book, Wallis proclaims that it’s time to call out genuine faith, inviting all who can be persuaded to reject and help dismantle a false gospel that propagates white supremacy and autocracy.

“Jim Wallis calls the nation to grow up, and he calls us all to fight the love battle to save the soul of America,” says Eddie S. Glaude, Jr., author, political commentator, and Distinguished Professor in the Department of African Studies at Princeton University, in his forward for the book.

Jim Wallis is Georgetown University’s inaugural holder of the Archbishop Desmond Tutu Chair in Faith and Justice and Director of its Center on Faith and Justice. He served on President Obama’s first White House Advisory Council on Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships, and is the author of multiple New York Times bestselling books, including “God’s Politics.” In 2022 and 2023, Washingtonian magazine named Wallis one of the 500 most influential people shaping policy in D.C. Wallis is also the founder of Sojourners, a progressive monthly magazine and daily online publication of the American Christian social justice organization Sojourners.

All are welcome!
