Liminal Archive: A Performance Caravan in the LES

LIMINAL ARCHIVE IN L.E.S
October 7, 8, 9 2022
Two performance caravans each day
2pm and 7pm
Starting Location: Tompkins Square Park
Liminal Archive returns; this time to the famed Manhattan neighborhood, the Lower East Side. On a bicycle-drawn stage, Al Límite Collective will bring a mobile performance caravan into the streets of Lower Manhattan. The audience is invited to travel with us to each performance site.
Liminal Archive began as an open-source platform, providing a cultural exchange where international artists could collaborate together during a lockdown and mass uprisings, and it has collected more than 40 artworks, including music, digital art and theater.
In Mid July 2021 we brought the Liminal Archive to life for a fully staged production in the New Ohio Theatre’s Ice Factory Festival.
Inspired by our company’s inception as core members of The Living Theatre’s last decade with co-founder Judith Malina, we return to our original home from which gentrification had displaced us. After a deep investigation into the history of the Lower East Side through interviews with long time residents, legendary artists, gardeners, elders, poets and activists we celebrate the resilient spirit of the community and draw on our own stories of the search for belonging, place-making and survival.
The LES edition of this project will also feature an online audio archive where you can listen to the powerful interviews we collected for this iteration of the show. Let the tales from the LES lead you through the radical history of this legendary neighborhood we once called home.
