Juilliard Drama Presents Agamemnon’s Return from Oresteia: This Restless House by Zinnie Harris
By Zinnie Harris
Directed by Evan Yionoulis
In this fresh take on Aeschylus’ Oresteia, an aggrieved mother must determine an appropriate homecoming for her war hero husband. The play explores what it might take to break a cycle of revenge and prevent its personal and civic repercussions.
When it ran at the Edinburgh International Festival, playwright Zinnie Harris described her adaptation as having “its feet and ankles in the original, but is also a new telling, putting the female characters much more center stage.” The result underscores the power of storytelling to connect audiences across millennia, she pointed out. Two-and-a-half thousand years, in this case.
Juilliard Drama’s production of Agamemnon’s Return from Oresteia: This Restless House is directed by Evan Yionoulis, Juilliard’s Obie Award–winning Richard Rodgers dean and director of the Drama Division.
