Joe Mccarthy’s NY Afro Bop Alliance at The Cutting Room

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with Joe McCarthy’s Latin Grammy® award-winning New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band at The Cutting Room in NYC. Hailed by Downbeat Magazine as “a torchbearer of the genre’s storied history and one of its fiercest innovators”, the NY Afro Bop Alliance Big Band has sustained a noted presence on the Afro-Latin scene for over 20 years, most recently with a 2023 Latin Grammy® nomination in the Best Arrangement Category for Joe’s creation of The Pan-American Nutcracker Suite. This showcase will feature selections from a soon to be released collaboration with celebrated Colombian composer/pianist Hector Martignon entitled Dispatch from the New World, a global musical adventure based on Dvorak’s New World Symphony. Other new compositions celebrating the life of Chick Corea will be presented in addition to selections from the band’s Latin Grammy® award winning repertoire.
