Invite the Light – Celebrating The Winter Solstice: A Ceremony
Join astrologer Demitra Vassiliadis to celebrate the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year. The solstice marks the turn of the tide of light: from this moment forward, the days lengthen as the light returns. Astrologically, it also is the point where the sun enters Capricorn and winter officially begins, which, in New York, will take place on December 21 at 4:20 am EST. This solstice ceremony will be a soulful and informative way to welcome winter, and to bring the returning light into our lives. Explore the astrological directives within the chart of this time of year that can help to move through the new season. There will also be a guided meditation to build a grid of supportive light within our bodies, and to connect with our empowered future selves.
Please come with three intentions to commit to that apply to any area of your life. Consider including a commitment to:
Your Sacred Contribution (how you will serve the world with your gifts) or to a quality you intend to cultivate and share this winter – love, tolerance, kindness, for example
Also, come with:
Something you would like to release into the waning lunar tide
An area of life you would like more light on
Be in a supportive environment where you can focus on the power of intentions, enjoy sacred community, and take the first intentional steps into the winter.
Materials Fee: A $5 cash fee will be paid directly to the instructor for green juice, snacks, organic chocolate and a candle. They will share green juice (as photosynthesis is light that we can invite into our bodies) and some chocolate to bring sweetness and brightness into the winter. Each participant will receive a candle to light at home, to invite the light into our lives.
Note: As a spiritual exchange to the planets and sun, or as an offering, consider preparing for the solstice with light fasting, purification through prayer, meditation and forgiveness practices a day before, seeking divine guidance regarding your sacred contribution to the world this winter and beyond. Feel free to wear white to represent the crown chakra and the snowy white of winter, if you wish.
Also: Bring any item that represents your focus for the winter. We’ll place these items on the altar, a place where the divine and human worlds interact.
*Enrollment is limited; please register early.
