Hudson Ballet Theatre presents: ICARUS

Feb. 11 – 12, 2 – 3:30 pm,
Icarus Feb Promo 1
This ballet takes a look at generational differences in the American Dream for immigrant families and challenges the notions of failure, success, self-fulfillment, and familial hopes and duty that spans the experience of migrant families across time and origin.

ICARUS retells the story of the Greek mythology of the same name through the lens of an American immigrant in the early 1900’s. Daedalus, a pregnant and skilled seamstress, arrives in New York and is quickly recruited by Minos to work at her sweatshop. Struggling to survive, she agrees to Minos’ employment terms to give her daughter, Icarus, a home and life in America. Daedalus devises a plan to help her daughter escape poverty, but Icarus has other plans for her future.

ICARUS is choreographed by Bronx resident and Artistic Director Ho-Shia Aaron Thao and co-written by Kamilah Tisdale. This production is made possible by the Bronx Council on the Arts.
