HINDENBURG THE MUSICAL

Some stories permeate so deeply in our culture, that they transcend history and become us. From bouncing babes on mother’s lap to wise elders, each of us, through the tales we’re told, root in the identities of the heroes — and villains — who came before. But it seems, once in a lifetime, a tale so momentous enters our scope, it doesn’t just change who we are: it changes who we will become. That tale? The Hindenburg.

You might think you know everything there is to know about your favorite Northern New Jersey blimp collision: what true-blue American cannot recount, with one hand over their heart, the indescribable highs and lows of its 30-second voyage?

But this ain’t your grandma’s Hindenburg.

A retelling of the very true events leading to the infamous 1937 Hindenburg explosion, Hindenburg: The Musical focuses on three heart-renderingly powerful timelines that intersect: our chipper hero, Hugo; the villainous Rickswald and his henchman, Gorbage; and Ryan and Demetri Zatowski, the leaders of the world’s first (and only) Hindenburg Cabaret Showroom. And yes, don’t worry…there’s audience participation.

Following their relationships with the ship as it sails to explosion, Hindenburg: The Musical is written by, directed, and starring James Caven and Kayleigh Birch, who (for better or worse) perform the entire 37 character cast themselves. James and Kayleigh are comedy writers and performers who met as interns at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and now they make stuff like this together.
