Consulate General of Malaysia in New York to Host Flag-Raising Ceremony for Malaysia’s 68th Independence Day

New York, NY – The Consulate General of Malaysia in New York will be holding a flag-raising ceremony to commemorate Malaysia’s 68th Independence Day, celebrating the nation’s rich history and cultural heritage. The event will take place on August 29, 2025, 10:00am, at Bowling Green Park, a historic site that will serve as the backdrop for this significant celebration.

The ceremony will feature remarks from prominent figures, including: Ms. Norhalilah Abdul Jalil, the newly appointed Consul General of Malaysia in New York City.

The event will also feature Malaysian artist, Timmy Ong, performing several pieces:

1) Malaysia’s national anthem
2) a fusion dance of silat and zapin – combining a traditional martial art form with a cultural dance form
3) a well-known patriotic song titled “Tanggal 31 Ogos” (translates to “The Date of 31st of August, which is anticipated to be a “group karaoke” session with the Malaysian diaspora in the crowd!
