EXCHANGE Presents “Flashes of Utopia” by Brendan Fernandes

Water Street Projects (WSP), a new, 50,000 sf contemporary arts space in Downton Manhattan opens with EXCHANGE, with newly commissioned works by Tosh Basco, Brendan Fernandes, Isabel Lewis, Tuan Andrew Nguyen and Raúl de Nieves, and large-scale installations by Radcliffe Bailey, Emeka Ogboh, and Ebony Patterson.
Each Thursday, EXCHANGE presents Flashes of Utopia, a sculptural installation and dance performance commissioned by Brendan Fernandes, which emulates a dinner table, catwalk, construction site, and playground, activated through performance and public engagement, examining power dynamics across labor, ballet and bondage. EXCHANGE is on view through June 11th at 161 Water Street.
EXCHANGE explores interstitial zones of transaction and transfer as sites for the transmission of capital, labor, bodies, and energy. Leveraging its vantage point in lower Manhattan, which has long been a locus for exchanges of global ramification, the exhibition traces the percussive impacts that such exchanges as Wall Street, the Atlantic Triangle, and Ellis Island have had and continue to have on individuals, cultures, and the natural and spiritual worlds today.
OPEN HOURS:
Thursday: 12pm to 10pm, with performances starting at 7pm
Friday through Sunday: 12pm to 8pm
