Complexions Contemporary Ballet’s 30th Anniversary Season
In its 30th Anniversary season, Complexions Contemporary Ballet returns celebrating three decades of “highly committed artistry” (Dance Informa) under the direction of co-Founders Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson. During its two-week season at The Joyce, Complexions brings a retrospective suite honoring Rhoden’s choreographic legacy, featuring audience favorites Ave Maria, Growth, Naked Perfume, Mercy, Higher Ground, and other high-octane works with music ranging from Tchaikovsky and Handel to Earth Wind and Fire and U2.
Company premieres include Rhoden’s take on Ravel’s masterful Bolero, a vibrant ensemble work set to an original score by David Rozenblatt entitled This Time, With Feeling, Benny -a pas de deux set to music by Sir Elton John, and Cry Me choreographed by Jae man Joo set to the music of Phillip Glass. Commemorating this landmark season, the company presents “30,” an anniversary tribute ballet with spoken word written and performed live by Resident Poet Journalist Aaron Dworkin.
