Community Class: West African Dance

Dance Project of Washington Heights is hosting a special one-time workshop with LIVE DRUMMING! A high-energy, all-levels class introducing students to traditional West African dance and culture from Senegal and Liberia. Led by instructor Amina Lydia Vargas and drummers from Kankouran West African Dance Company. Students of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate. You do not need any prior knowledge of African dance. During the class, Amina will create routines that incorporate African drumming music and modern African music. And everyone learn a traditional Warrior dance called Balante!
