Queens Baby Cafe Launch + Black Breastfeeding Week Celebration_Flyer

Public Health Solutions and the NYC Breastfeeding Warmline would like to invite you to join us on August 27, 2024, at Rufus King Park at 150-29 Jamaica Avenue from 10am – 1pm, for our Queens Baby Cafe – Jamaica Site launch and Black Breastfeeding Week Celebration. Established in 2014, Black Breastfeeding Week is a response to the high Black infant mortality rate, lack of diversity in the field of lactation, shines light on the unique cultural barriers faced by Black women and, elevates the efforts and initiatives that support breastfeeding among Black families. This event will celebrate our BIPOC families that have allowed us the privilege to serve and support them on their lactation journey as well as acknowledge the BIPOC lactation professionals who have (and continue) to break down barriers and provide their services.

During this event, we will be announcing to the community the opening of the Queens Baby Café at our new Jamaica Center located at 149-18 Jamaica Avenue walking distance from the park! Baby Cafes are free, drop-in, informal breastfeeding support groups that offer ongoing professional lactation care and intervention and we are bringing it to the Jamaica, Queens area in an effort to further break down the barriers faced by BIPOC families. Our new Jamaica Center is also home to the Queens Healthy Start Program, our Jamaica WIC Center as well as Health Insurance/SNAP enrollment support.
