New York, NY – May 2025
This spring, a cornerstone of modern Brazilian theater arrives in New York City. Wedding Dress (Vestido de Noiva), the groundbreaking 1943 play by Nelson Rodrigues, will make its long-awaited New York premiere at Playhouse 46 from May 16–18, 2025.

Directed by Julia Burnier, this visionary production brings together an international cast and creative team, featuring Ana Moioli, Daniel Mazzarolo, Debora Balardini, Ma Troggian, and more. Presented in collaboration with Are We In Love? Productions, the show promises to be a vibrant cultural exchange celebrating the richness of Latin American artistry.

A Dreamlike Descent into the Psyche
At the center of Rodrigues’ haunting tale is Alaíde, a young bride on the edge of death. As she slips between memory, reality, and hallucination, the audience is drawn into a fractured, symbolic world that lays bare themes of guilt, repression, madness, and morality. Hailed as the play that redefined Brazilian theater, Wedding Dress eschews traditional structure in favor of a poetic, nonlinear journey through the subconscious.

Timely and Timeless
This production arrives during a global resurgence of interest in Brazilian culture, following the international acclaim of the Oscar-winning film I’m Still Here. As Brazil’s artistic legacy garners renewed recognition, Wedding Dress offers New York audiences an unforgettable encounter with one of its most iconic dramatic works.
