Celebrating its 54th year in January, Women In the Arts Foundation, Inc. artists continue to challenge the art world.
Founded in 1971 during a period of intense social and artistic change, WIA Women In the Arts Foundation, Inc. has been at the forefront of the fight to end discrimination against women artists. From picketing major institutions like the Whitney Museum of American Art
and the Museum of Modern Art, to securing history-making exhibitions of women’s work, WIA has tirelessly advocated for equal representation and equity, opening opportunities for women artists.
WIA’s commitment to empowering women artists has evolved over the decades. While it once focused on direct action and protest, the organization places a strong emphasis on presenting exhibits of members’ work in museums, galleries, universities and colleges, and corporate galleries, in addition to professional development and networking. WIA conducts a speaker series featuring art world luminaries, offering unique reflections on the role of women in shaping the contemporary art landscape.
