A Look Into “The Last Cup” with NPR’s Jasmine Garsd and David Greene

Lionel Messi has dominated the game of soccer in recent history, and won just about every award one can win. His story is one of incredible success — and struggle. Despite Messi’s consistent triumph, one goal has long eluded his grasp: winning the World Cup.

NPR’s Jasmine Garsd and Religion of Sports’ David Greene will explore a different side to Messi’s story during a conversation about her new podcast at the House of Fútbol on December 1st at 8 PM.

Garsd’s new show, The Last Cup/La última copa, is a dual-language podcast about soccer and the immigrant experience, presented by NPR and Futuro Studios. Jasmine tells the story of Messi as a young immigrant who left Argentina on his way to soccer stardom. Now, he faces his last chance to win a World Cup – and the respect of his country. Leaving home, the search for success, and the dream of returning one day; Garsd sets out to explore these themes in her own life as an Argentine immigrant. What does home mean when you are so far away, for so long?

This conversation will take place in Religion of Sports’ House of Fútbol. At this event, you’re also invited to explore the rest of the House of Fútbol experience, which includes works chronicling the history of the World Cup, screenings of our favorite soccer films and other creator content, as well as interactive ways to examine why the sport is worshiped with religious fervor by the masses.

Water from Liquid Death and Red Bull will be served. Those 21+ can also enjoy beer from 18th Ward Brewing, Dirty Shirleys and wine.
