15-Year Breast Cancer Survivor and Lifelong Artist’s First Solo Art Show
For Laney Liner, opportunity met preparation recently. Laney is a 50-year-old lifelong artist and 15-year breast cancer survivor who resides on Long Island. She learned the December 2022 artist group was unable to participate in the art showcase at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library. Laney was in the right place, at the right time and asked the right questions to be selected for her first ever solo art show. Within two days, Laney brought her show to life on Friday, December 2, 2022.
It is with wonderful amounts of gratitude that Laney is able to share her talent with the community. For Laney, the library for the last 21 years has been a peaceful place to soak up the words from the plethora of books it holds to all the events they offer to help individuals gain knowledge. So much planning goes into making this library a destination for studying, learning and running into friends. They also offer a summer reading program which encourages children to read under the tutelage of students in the community. It is a WIN-WIN opportunity for students of all ages.
The library is under the leadership of Gretchen Browne with whom Laney has communicated over the years to share her suggestions and praise to continuously elevate the experience it offers to the community. “Laney’s interesting and varied compositions enhance our Gallery walls. Her photos and charcoal and watercolor paintings, her colorful marker pieces are very special and provide a welcoming feeling to all who come into the Library,” said Browne. A special thank you goes out to the library’s illustrator, Meghan O’Connor who generously offered to create the amazing poster introducing Laney’s show. This show is really a team effort and it couldn’t have happened without all of the library’s dedicated staff including the incredible custodians Laney had the opportunity to engage with while decorating the walls with her art.
The art show will be adorning the walls of both of the library’s galleries located at 999 Old Country Road, Plainview, NY until January 2, 2023. If you have an opportunity to visit this wonderful sanctuary of knowledge and inspiration, please take a moment to enjoy Laney’s artwork created with LOVE and from the heART.
